Behind the Delays: How the California Wildfires Affected Our Freight Network
Published by Store Support Team | Read time: ~3 mins
If you’ve been tapping your foot waiting on a tracking number over the past week, we hear you loud and clear. Transparency is key around here, so we wanted to lay out the full story of why a portion of our order shipments are moving slower than a group chat trying to pick a restaurant.
As you may have caught in recent headlines, severe wildfires swept through key commercial transit corridors in California. Beyond the immediate environmental and community impacts, the fires struck directly at vital logistics infrastructure—including regional staging warehouses where inventory for multiple retailers, including ours, is routed before making its trip across the country.
The Incident: Fires & Distressed Logistics
Earlier last week, fast-moving brush fires pushed toward major industrial logistics parks. While emergency crews fought heroically on the front lines to protect lives and property, high winds forced immediate evacuations and road closures along essential interstates.
📰 NEWS CLIPPING — California Transportation & Logistics Wire "Wildfires Force Closure of Regional Freight Hubs; Warehouses Suffer Structural Damage"
"A major wildfire outbreak in Southern and Central freight corridors forced the emergency evacuation of multiple commercial fulfillment hubs on Tuesday. At least two regional consolidation centers sustained partial structural damage, crippling regional dispatch operations. Logistics managers report widespread rerouting across West Coast delivery networks as freight carriers hold shipments until air quality and structural safety checks clear..."
Unfortunately, one of the primary third-party logistics facilities where our regional West Coast inventory is processed and staged took a direct hit. While all warehouse personnel were safely evacuated without injury—which remains the absolute most important news—the facility suffered partial damage, temporarily locking down inventory and knocking regional sorting equipment offline.
What This Means for Your Pending Orders
Because the main line was temporarily out of commission, our logistics team had to pivot immediately to backup fulfillment centers in neighboring states. Think of it like taking a bench player and putting them right into the starting lineup during the bottom of the 9th with two outs—it takes a second to get up to speed, but we get the job done.
